About Ref's Crease
Founded in 1980 by Eugene Binda, Referee’s Crease began as a small officiating assignment group built on a passion for developing hockey officials. What started with a handful of local teams has grown into a trusted network supporting more than 2,000 officials across youth, junior, collegiate, and professional hockey.
Over the years, Referee’s Crease has evolved into more than an assigning organization — becoming a development pipeline focused on mentorship, training, and advancement opportunities for officials at every stage of their careers. From first-year officials stepping onto the ice to experienced officials advancing to higher levels, our mission has remained the same: support growth, create opportunity, and strengthen the officiating community

Our Goal
At Referee’s Crease, our goal is simple: Recruit. Develop. Advance.
We are committed to identifying passionate officials, providing meaningful training and mentorship, and creating opportunities for advancement across all levels of hockey. Through camps, evaluations, assignments, and ongoing development, we help officials build confidence, consistency, and professionalism on and off the ice.
Our long-term vision is to create a unified standard of officiating — where officials trained through Referee’s Crease bring consistency, integrity, and professionalism to every game they work.
